The Perold Absa Cape Blend competition is organised by the Pinotage Association to fulfil the wish of several members to launch a competition for the advancement and promotion of a blended red wine of which Pinotage constitutes a significant component. The aim of the competition is the identification of five (5) Cape Blend wines annually of which the quality characteristics are so uniquely distinctive that it could have a meaningful impact on the international wine market to the benefit of South Africa.

The Beyerskloof blend comprises 37% Pinotage, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 9% Shiraz; the KWV blend is 36% Pinotage, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Shiraz, 5% Petit verdot, 5% Tannat and 5% Malbec, while the Windmeul blend has 60% Pinotage, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit verdot.
